Macael Awards 2014

Under the theme “Naturally Macael”, the Association of Businessmen of Marble in Andalusia (AEMA), held the Macael Awards ceremony last November. The winners in this XXV111 edition, in the different categories, were the following:

AWARD TO THE INSTITUTION
MARBLE INSTITUTE OF AMERICA (MIA), with its headquarters in Ohio (USA), presided by Tony Malisani, for the recent signing of an agreement of a collaboration agreement between AEMA and MIA, for jointly developing the work of promoting the marble of the area and positioning the brand Macael in the American market, advising and support to the Spanish companies in their commercial relations and promotion in the American continent.
 
 
 
AWARD FOR COMMUNICATION
The production company, BABIEKA FILMS, with headquarters in Madrid, for choosing the quarries of Macael for filming the outdoor scenes of the super-production “ EXODUS”, contributing thus to the promotion all over the world of the existence of the quarries of Blanco Macael, and to the increase of tourism of the area.
 
 
AWARD FOR DESIGN
The restaurant DANI GARCIA, located in Marbella (Malaga), where the imagination and fantasy have aligned as protagonists in each corner of the place. The design of the kitchen fulfils the desire of the builder to convert it in “the light” of the restaurant, contrasting perfectly with the rest of the establishment, making use of the possibilities offered by the material “Dekton”.
 
 
AWARD FOR SPANISH PROJECT
The buildings  PITAGORAS and FUNDACION TECNOVA, both promoted and located in the Scientific Technological Park of Almeria (PITA), under the direction of the architect José Angel Ferrer, in which, apart from use of the marble Blanco Macael for flooring, a new technique has been used in the crystalized facades with laminates of this material which gives to the buildings a unique and original exterior aspect, and that at the same time makes use of the characteristics and luminosity of marble.
 
 
AWARD INTERNATIONAL-AFRICA
The complex of apartments and offices LE YACHT, located in Casablanca, composed of 130 apartments and 70 offices, the construction of which required 36000 sqm of marble BLANCO MACAEL in flooring, cladding and staircases, complemented with black granite in countertops and facades.
 
 
AWARD INTERNATIONAL- LATIN AMERICA   
The complex ALVEAR PUERTO MADERO HOTEL & RESIDENCIAS, built in Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires, which combines a top level hotel along with top range homes, having selected for all the kitchens of the complex, Silestone surfaces.
 
 
AWARD INTERNATIONAL- ASIA
SINGLE FAMILY HOUSING built in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.
 
 
Both in exteriors and interiors of the houses, different marbles such as Crema Nácar, Amarillo Macael, Crema Parador and Sierra Elvira were combined in different formats, integrating bathtubs and washbasins in marble, mosaics, reliefs and cladding, in the different halls, bathroom and kitchens.
 
 
AWARD INTERNATIONAL-NORTH AMERICA
The ensemble of FOUR RELIGIOUS PROJECTS with natural stone:
 
1.       Chapel of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, Santa Paula, California.
2.       Cathedral of St. Stephen, Owensboro, Kentucky.
3.       Holy Family Chapel, Darien, Illinois.
4.       St. Kilian Catholic Church, Mission Viejo, California.
 
 
In all of them, natural stone has been used in the most important elements, such as the altar, balustrade, and other decorative details, with a lot of design and finishes that contribute to highlight the beauty of these temples.
 
 
AWARD INTERNATIONAL-EUROPE
The STAIRCASE OF SINGLE FAMILY HOUSING, built in the city of Budapest.
 
 
In the construction of the staircases, the material Onyx Miel was used, a complex technique known as “bookmatch” was applied, that allows for continuity in the veins both in the steps, partitions and the pavement, which prevents the breakage of intermediate pieces. Given the characteristics of this stone that complements perfectly with the artificial illumination, one achieves a spectacular and majestic result in the five floors of the building.
