One of the more interesting side shows during Marmomac fair in Verona (Italy) is, by and large, ignored by the exhibitors, who are more focused on doing business. That is unfortunate because spending even a few minutes in this section, titled "Marmomac meets Academies" shows the possibilities in natural stone and can spark off new ideas, so badly needed in the natural stone industry.
This lithic research and experimentation project was presented at the 2023 edition of the Marmomac fair in Verona as part of the cultural exhibition The Plus Theatre in pavilion 10.
Organised by Giuseppe Fallacara, the exhibition serves as a bridge between the academic/training world and the business world, showcasing various prototypes created by students from Italian and foreign universities and research centres. The aim is to showcase innovative solutions for the use of stone in architecture and design.
The square exhibition space is crowned by a large "suspended vault" of lithic elements made of coral limestone from Castel del Monte. This material has been reconstructed using an innovative formula resulting from specific research on the theme of the recomposition of stone from waste.
Each work addresses various themes ranging from the use of fine stone to recomposed stone, from 3D printed stone to structurally optimised stone: all research aimed at a conscious use of natural Stone.
