MARMOMAC Verona Fair 2025

The 2025 edition of Marmomac fair (23 to 26 September) was held against the backdrop of unprecedented uncertainty in the industry and business environment, practically all over the world. Added to the massive disruption due to the emergence of alternative materials in recent years, the serious slowdown in demand in China, a sluggish European Union economy, the tariff wars proceeding from USA that started in April this year, added even more to the prevailing uncertainty.

All stone industry trade fairs in the world have been feeling the consequences of this slowdown, and Marmomac 2025 was no exception. There were less exhibitors than before, and there were, anecdotally speaking, less visitors too. The one pleasant surprise this year was apparently increased number of visitors from Latin America but there seemed to be less visitors from everywhere else.

What was new? Not much, really. The Chinese machinery manufacturers are now adopting a higher profile outside their country. As they seek to sell everywhere. The stone companies all over the world are, at last, focusing on experimenting with new textures and finishes as a way to differentiate themselves. Some have also invested heavily in furniture, but these companies tend to exhibit in other types of fairs. Overall, one gets the feeling there is still an oversupply of slabs in the market, but also that, with so many quarries and companies closing down and others working below capacity, we may be reaching the bottom soon.
